The second theory of the Pug Dogs’ origin is that they descended from a shorthaired Pekingese and a small Bulldog. This breed was a favorite of the artist Hogarth and is featured in many of his pieces. Throughout history the Pug has been a popular breed as it was the official dog of the House of Orange in Holland, at one time Napoleon owned a Pug Dog and they were popular as pets in Tibetan monasteries. The Pug Dog’s popularity peaked during the Victorian era. Today, Pug Dogs make excellent watchdogs and companion dogs.
