The Vietnam War lasted from 1959 until 1975. The war ended with a peace treaty in 1973 that provided the United States disengagement. In the end the Vietnam War was a political defeat for the United States and a military victory for the Democratic Republic of Vietnam over the Republic of Vietnam. Finally the reunification of Vietnam was the end result.
