There are three types of Dachshund dogs, a wired haired, short haired and longhaired, all three ranges in size.  The general build of these dogs are a long body with a muscular build.  They have a short coat that can be a solid color, tan or yellow or bicolor in deep black, brown or gray with spots of bright chestnut.  The temperament of the Dachshund dog is affectionate, proud, energetic and willful.  This breed is very curious and can be mischievous and try and play tricks on its owner instead of the other way around.  This dog does well as a traveling dog and overfeeding is not recommended because they can quickly gain weight.  The Dachshund does well with other pets but they can become jealous.  This breed is very active and they love to be walked and playing.  Dachshund hound is pronounced “dak sund” as they originated in Germany.  “Dachs” is also the word for a badger, which Dachshunds ere bred to hunt, they were bred to follow the animal into the ground and dig in its burrows to find it.  This breed is quite courageous so they have been known to take on foxes or otters and not just badgers.
