Carson Newman College was founded in 1851 in rural Jefferson City, Tennessee as the Mossy Creek Missionary Baptist Seminary. In 1880 the college name was changed to Carson College. The Carson Newman College was officially named in 1888 when the all male Carson College and the all female Newman College joined. Also known as C-N, Carson Newman College is a Baptist liberal arts college with about 2,000 students. They stand by their motto, truth, beauty, and goodness. C-N is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II and the South Atlantic Conference. They were named National Champions in football in their division on five different occasions.
